Today my word is JOYFUL! Before you tune me out, let me tell you that it is linked to the words YET and IN.
(NLT) Yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
(Amplified Bible) Yet I will [choose to] rejoice in the Lord; I will [choose to] shout in exultation in the [victorious] God of my salvation!
(NKJV) Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
Habakkuk 3:18 shakes me as I read it. It begins with a powerful word – YET. This word YET follows many EVEN THOUGHs. It is this sequence of words that causes me to pause and consider the idea of JOY.
Yet means nevertheless, still, in spite of. So, can I say “YET” I will have joy?
Will I have joy in spite of:
- Life as it is right now.
- The doctors report.
- The Notice of Foreclosure.
- The phone call I didn’t want to receive.
- The letter on the counter.
- The ache in my heart.
- The disappointment.
- The separation from family.
- The stress of being with family project planning tools.
- The empty bank account.
Will I have joy, find joy, and express joy – NEVERTHELESS?
Am I only joyful if all things line up according to my plans? Or, does my JOY come from the Lord? Is my JOY “IN” Christ?
I love the last word of this verse – SALVATION. Salvation as it used here means deliverance, rescue, salvation, safety, welfare. It is the perfect answer to any problem that is present in my life. God can rescue me. God is safety. He cares for my welfare. He is deliverance. Salvation is REASON for JOY!
My prayer for us today:
Thank You that You love us. Thank You that You always, always have our best in mind. Help us to rest and rejoice in Your SALVATION! Lord, let unspeakable joy rise up in us!
